Song of the Day: Green Day - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)

God I hate Christmas.

No, thats not true. I don't actually start hating Christmas until around Dec 21. Up until then its cute and an excuse to slack off from work. After that, its purely about the race to be better. Better presents, more thought, or better yet, more money.. it doesn't matter.

Having said that, I did spend a lot of money this year. The thing that shits me about my Christmas shopping method is that I see something, buy it and think "right, thats it, I'm over it *phew*!" . Then about ten minutes later I see something better. But I know that if I try reverse psychology ("if I leave it and come back, I will find something better in the meantime") the cosmos will implode, along with my not-terribly-well-thought-out-present-idea. Ever noticed how something that doesn't really appeal to you as a present on Dec 1 gets increasingly more attractive as Dec 25 gets closer?

So anyway, employing the buy-present-wait-ten-minutes rule means that everyone got loads of presents. $10 or $20 here and there you don't notice.. til you front up with 300 gifts and a whopping MasterCard bill and wonder if you might have slightly overdone it. Thats why I hate Christmas.

Last year, Christmas sucked balls. There, I said it. It was the worst Christmas ever, for a variety of well-worn reasons and I can't think of anything that could have redeemed it. This year, its the complete opposite and for the first time in ages, I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow. Sure, it will be nutty (Christmas is at my sister's house this year, with her brood, my brood and the whole extended brood!) but you can always leave, right? The great thing about this christmas is that for the first time since I was about 18, our whole family will be together. You can't buy that.

And as for new years, well....here's hoping this new years eve will be better than the last... at least the fallout is bound to be less damaging!

p.s Santa.. prepaid Internet. You know you wanna.
