Song of the Day: Van Morrison - Days Like This

Well, its been an interesting week.

First off, my birthday will probably go down in my personal history as one of the best and worst days of my life. (Or maybe in ten years time I won't care.. who knows). Anyway..

About a month ago I finally committed myself and booked a holiday overseas for December. The plan was to spend a few weeks in London in reconnaissance for next year, and spend new years in Edinburgh, home of one of Europe's biggest new years eve street parties.

I had paid my deposit and booked my accomodation, but a week later my mother found another lump and it was time to go back to the hospital and do some tests.

Wednesday (my birthday) was a big deal cos it was the day of the test results. It was pretty tense to say the least. I think I prayed to every God known in existence for it to be nothing. And it was, and I couldn't be more thankful.

I got back to work on Wednesday after going to the hospital to hear mums good news, and I thought that I would be ok to go on holiday after all. That afternoon at work, we had a meeting and it turns out they're retrenching us all and packing up for Melbourne.

I can't begin to tell you how this makes us all feel. Unfortunately for us, the bank pays us pretty well, and treats us pretty well, so getting back out there in the real world is going to suck. But most importantly, its going to be hard because the people I work with are like family to me. Even the irritating ones. I'll miss them all.

So for a bit of stress release, we headed down to the Franklin St shooting range. I have to say that I am pretty scared of guns (and needles, and spiders, and lying good-for-nothing friends) but I decided to give it a go.

VBG stood and watched us girls fire the first few rounds, and I gotta say I was petrified. I was shaking all the way to my boots as the shells ejected from the side of the gun, bouncing off my head. Eventually, I relaxed and I was fine.

For those interested, I fired 30 rounds with a 9mm Glock (the first one), 12 rounds with a .38 special (the second one) and lastly a couple of rounds on a .22 Ruger. You can see one of my hit sheets below. Not too bad, I think.
