Seen that movie Magnolia? I just saw it recently and it totally blew me away.

It was one of the most strange, vile and confronting movies I've seen, and yet there was minimal sex, minimal violence and no special effects whatsoever. I started watching this movie and I hated it for the first 1/2 an hour, it was so taxing on my mind - the camera angles and story line hopping was driving me nuts. It isn't fluff, thats for sure. Anyway, I got into it... in a way that I've never put myself in a movie before. Needless to say, I was bawling at several key scenes.. and the speech by William H Macy's character Donnie "I have a lot of love to give, but I just don't know where to put it". If you haven't seen it, go hire it.
Apart from the excellent acting and so many cameos I couldn't count, the soundtrack has introduced me to Aimee Mann who IMHO writes some of the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard. The title to this post is currently my personal favourite.. it describes me and how I think of life right now down to a tee. She also does a beautiful cover of Three Dog Night's "One is the loneliest number" on the Magnolia soundtrack.
I finally got my picture yesterday. I've had it on order since early December. It's a 5ft wide panoramic print of the Colosseum in Rome and its a pretty impressive piece. Anyway, the first time I saw it in the store, I was able to pick out the exact spot we had sat down and gazed up at the Colosseum framed by the black night sky.. and the spot where we ran across the road, narrowly missing getting splattered by some Italian driver. The first time I saw this picture I felt this huge well of sadness like I've never felt before in my life. I'd love to know why the hell I bought it. Below is a jpg of it, but it really doesn't do it justice. The photographer is Marco Mandibola, who along with Emanuele Brambilla and James Blakeway take these amazing panoramic prints that have grabbed my attention (and my wallet) lately. I'm planning on collecting a lot more. Something inanimate which grabs hold of your heart like that is something worth keeping.. if only for the memory.
