Song of the Day: White Stripes - Fell In Love With A Girl

Fell in love with this song...

I'm wondering if the White Stripes can do any wrong? It started off with Seven Nation Army which guaranteed I'd be bopping down the street to work in no time (after much time, its still that way), moved onto Hardest Button to Button which led to exploration of their kick-ass album Elephant...

Fast forward a few weeks and I'm totally enamoured with Jack and Meg White and thinking this is the best music I've heard in a long time. Then I find out they're old, they've been around for ages and there's two albums before Elephant. Excellent! And from White Blood Cells came my favourite so far and the title of todays post, Fell In Love With a Girl. That this single was a hit years ago (where the hell was I? mars?) doesn't matter to me.. its only 1m49s long but I think the lack of length works well for this song. Like Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here", the lack of length leaves you wanting more... and this can only be a good thing.

White Stripes stuff currently on high rotation in my house:

  • Fell in Love with a Girl
  • Jolene (a Dolly Parton cover which actually kicks ass, surprisingly enough)
  • Hotel Yorba (a fun, upbeat song.. more fun than rocky)
  • Apple Blossom (Jack White once received a video from a fan who is a teacher.. she got her whole primary school class to sing this song to him.. I love it. Innocent, sweet and catchy.)
  • The Air Near My Fingers (played at home induces a mini-mosh)
  • Dead Leaves and The Dirty Ground (the video for this song is so damn sad but the song itself rocks)
  • Sick of Love (AKA Lovesick) Live @ The Forum (who couldn't relate to this song??)

Those are just my favourites..I wish they were playing here sometime soon.

White Stripes rant over, its a little under 2 weeks until I go home. I can't wait! I've been keeping myself up at night thinking about my friends I'll catch up with and the things I'll do (decent shopping and decent food comes to mind!) which is not really doing my enthusiasm for work much good!

The trip to Glasgow was excellent. Karen and I had an absolute blast but by the time I got home, I was seriously exhausted. We were on the go early in the mornings and back to the hostel late at night, and I'm glad it was just a 2 day thing otherwise I might've collapsed :) We spent one day in Edinburgh which is such a beautiful city that I seriously started to wonder what on earth I am doing in London! But more on this next time.. back to work for me!
