Song of the Day: The White Stripes - The Air Near My Fingers
Totally loving the White Stripes. This song is catchy.. total nonsense, but catchy.
Settling in nicely to the new house. Have got my room all set up the way I want it, with various teething problems all worked out. (Finally can have a shower standing UP, its amazing what makes you happy!) I still think of my ex housemates every now and then, but its pretty clear that theirs is an out-of-sight-out-of-mind type friendship in which case, what can ya do? Fuck em.
Went to Slimelight ("Slimes") last Sat night, which was a total eye opener. OK, it was downright scary. I had fuck all to do on a Sat night anyway, so when one of my housemates said I had to go "just for the experience" I figured why not... holy crap what a place!
I guess you could call it a goth club.. but its kind of more than that. Its like a goth club, a rave and a cyber party all mixed up into one. In one night I got offered dope, some E's, a line of coke and some mesculin (I still don't know what that is), the music was like some sort of power techno, people dressed in whatever the hell they could find that was as far from a definition of "normal" as possible, and let me tell ya, there was a LOT of love in the air, if you get my drift. To be honest, it wasn't really my scene, (I think the music was a big factor in this) but for people watching, you could not beat it. For a fiver to get in, and you can BYOB it was way cool. Definately worth going, even if you only go once. And hey.. it beats sitting at home :)
Finally booked my ticket home last week. I'm going back to Oz for 3 weeks in April, so if you're reading this and wanna catch up.. better send me an email! (Unless I've ambushed you first, of course). It cost a near fortune, however this is negated because....
The extra big news is that yesterday I got some acknowledgement for all my hard yakka at work. How cool is that?! Along with a groupwide email saying how great I am, a nifty lil certificate and (most importantly) a nice phat check, I am now in a better position to leverage a (desperately needed and deserved) pay rise. Yay me! It came at a time I really needed it, and yet I am coveting an iPod.. oh boy. Decisions, decisions..
