Song of the Day: Maroon 5 - Harder to Breathe

London got its first snow last night!

I stepped out of the office at 5.30 and it was coming down thick and fast. My first snow since I've been here, the whole thing was really exciting. I could hardly see my hands in front of my face and everything looked so beautiful, but fuck was it COLD! London at the moment is a magical place to be. Naturally, the transport system is in chaos.. but hey.

Heading on over to the pub, me and Pete from the helpdesk had a terrific snowball fight, followed by drinks in the warm pub and all was right with the world. Bliss.

I'm moving house this weekend! I'm moving out of the ghetto and down the road to Islington where I'll be near Angel (terrific bars, cafes, shopping etc) and won't feel afraid to walk the streets after dark. The new house is excellent, and the plus is I'll be sharing with my bud Toby and his friend Alex. My room will be decent sized (as opposed to the matchbox I now live in) and the house isn't falling apart which is also a plus.. oh yeah.. and broadband. Yay! The downside is that my rent goes up to 400 a month (plus 40 squid council tax.. fuckers) and its a little further to transport.. but hey, I need the exercise and the money is worth it. The other downside is that I'm leaving two of the best housemates ever (Howard and Michael) who never fail to entertain me or cheer me up.

I've travelled a bit since last post. Christmas was in Wales, a few weeks later I went to Barcelona for a few days. Both were excellent trips, and I plan to cover these in detail in a new travel page I'm writing. Next up is Glasgow in March (side trip to Edinburgh hopefully) with Karen and then.. well, who knows? I was planning Milan in late Feb but due to the move this weekend, this is probably not going to happen.

Stuff at work is going well. I recently took on an upgrade project all by myself, with just a book to help me, and it went really well and everyone loves me. At least, they do today. Tomorrow when it all comes crashing down I will be exposed for the fraud I am :) Although this job pays absolutely abyssmally, I can take comfort in the fact that I am learning more and more stuff every day, and can pretty much write my own job description.

I was thinking of going home for April, but again because of the move this has been put off. It was a toss up between going to Vegas and doing the road trip thing (not terribly attractive, on my own) or flying home for a few weeks. I wish Australia wasn't so bloody far away!

Speaking of Australia, Australia Day here went off. I went down to the Slug n Lettuce in Fulham with Sharon and her friend Sharon to find a pub full of aussies in various states of patriotic dress. Some people wore wallabies jumpers, some people wore flags (as skirts or capes) and some had painted faces. Snakies were 2 squid (urgh) but I stuck to cowboy shots at 1 pound a pop. Needless to say, drinking on a Sunday at 3pm and getting plastered by 5 is a strange way to spend the day. The pub played almost exclusively aussie music (congratulations to Jet for scoring the Hottest 100 prize for a damn excellent song!) with some really obscure stuff thrown in. (Slim Dusty and his mate Duncan for one.. huh?) All in all an excellent day.. but it made me miss home even more.
